Wood that looks dry is not necessarily ready for efficient burning. A moisture reading gives you a repeatable way to compare loads and stacks. Record the date, measurement location, wood species and reading so you can see how the stock changes during storage.
Separate available stock from total stock
A useful inventory distinguishes between wood that is ready to burn and wood that is still seasoning. This is especially important for properties that rely on wood as the main source of space heating and hot water.
Use consumption to plan the next order
Once usage is recorded consistently, you can estimate the rate at which a stack is disappearing. That gives you a better basis for ordering before the property reaches a critical level.
